I am probably not best person to advise as I have only fished here once and blanked but as your post has been on for two weeks with no reply I thought would add something to it - however ill informed.
You are right in saying fish are close in - I spent all day casting to the middle into the deper water - I now realise I was casting over the fish - I did get a lot of line bites though which with hindsight should have indicated to me what I was doing wrong.
I believe that there is a shallow (ish) shelf around the margins on which the fish feed.
From reading some earlier posts it does seem to be easy fishing with a lot of fish caught (not by me though)
As for methods am not really sure of best - float fishing or feeder or which baits work best - sorry.
Not really what you were seeking I know - but a start at least and now hopefully someone with better knowledge will add to my rather poor attempt at helping you.
