Went up on Saturday with the Father in law and we never had a bite all day, and we wern,t the only ones another couple of chaps said the same.

We were hoping to give match lake a try but was very busy, I didn,t realise so many people were camping out there for the bank holiday.

Still better than working I suppose,!

Ps Let me know if you find a good spot on our ticket where even I can catch, cheers

I have had some good sessions on ully gully in the past some nice skimmer catches and the odd tench.

I seem to have done a lot better before the channel was widened into the trent a couple of years ago, I don't know what affect this had exactly, i'm not sure if the fish went out or too many pike came in. There are still plenty of fish in there, i have seen a lot of tench and carp in there the past 2 years but they seem extremely difficult to catch and the question is how long do they spend in there are they mainly there for spawning??? I don't know what the answer would be for Ully Gully.

It sounds to me as though people want it to be a bagging lake with plenty of silver fish which i fully agree with, but i don't know how feasible it would be to stock it again with the channel joining the trent and also the flooding potential it has.

It kind of seems to me that it can be one of those lakes that if you hit it right you can have some really good fishing, but this may not be from a day to day basis, it could go as far as dependant on what sort of year we have had to whether the fish come out of the trent into Ully Gully or visa versa.

I think Ully Gully is and will also be a difficult lake to fully be able to read and one method may work one week, but theres no guarantee it will work the next cos you don't know what state the lake is going to be in, is it dependent on what state the trent is in.

I think you hit the nail on the head, as I have had some excellent catches in the past, but the last few times not a sausage, I wasn't the only one fishing so I like to think it wasn't just my bad fishing. I know I'll give it another go some time when I have plenty of time so I won't get too disappointed
