Had a good first session of 2014 on Grimshaws today. Landed seven and lost one. Five of them commons. The best was this 14lb 6oz common (below) and a 10lb football mirror. Looking forward to another good season ahead.
Thanks. It just goes to show that they’re in there and they’re catchable. Just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Good luck on Wednesday.
Sorry I can’t put up any pics, wifey was on her phone every time in had a fish on.
Couldn’t believe my luck actually.
I decided to target other species on my second rod using worm and maggot over H&T.
4th cast brought my first Perch around 1lb and half. Then came a 2lb 6oz.
I had 8 Perch in the 4hr session and they were all over the 1lb mark. My PB came just after my ticket was checked at 3lb 2oz.
Now after the bigger ones as I’m sure there are some.
I haven’t fished this lake yet, looking to give it a try next week. Can anyone give me a pointer on what sort of baits work well on here and any rig advice as I am a bit of a novice!
Hi Gavin
I fished Grimshaws last week during the day, mainly for Perch. Had my personal best at over 3lb.
Had a bonus 12lb mirror on 4 red maggots on a size 14 hook.
I’ve tried alsorts of boilies/bait but all my catches seem to come from maggot.
I use a method feeder on one rod and pva bag on the other when carping. I also use the lasso to hold my pellets next to the hook on a 2ft hook length.
It’s really up to you what rig to use, trial and error with me most of the time.
Good luck and I hope to see a picture of your catches.
Andy
Went on Tuesday and had a good net full of Perch 1lb to 1.5lb was good fun. Thanks for giving me some pointers on what works just need to bag a Carp next!
No probs Gav
I’m the sort of bloke that tells people what bait I used etc etc
With the weather getting colder, I would rather think that we should start using spicey flavours.
One thing I did notice when I had an overnighter there with the missus, was the amount of bait people were sticking.
Good luck on the Carp matey. Hope you get a big one
