2.75s would be perfect in my opinion for fishing grimshaws as they’d get you to the far bank with a good thump but often in that lake, you’ll catch more just over the near shelf. 3lb TC rods may well be more versatile though for when bigger casts/leads are needed on other, bigger lakes.
Rods tend to always be a compromise as we can’t afford 3 of each and every test curve! I used 3lb Nash H-Gun rods for quite some time and for the price they coped very well with many sessions on grimshaws. These have been upgraded to 3.25TC rods now though as i’m fishing waters where bigger chucks are required and often with a pva bag full of bait as well as 3oz of lead. these are still fine on smaller waters though, I just need to remember to set the reel clutch a little lighter as the stiffer rod may well pull hooks at close range.
like i said, they are a personal thing but 3lbs TC sounds an ideal starting point.
I can’t help with any on the bank advise i’m afraid as the carp gear has gone away for the winter now but i recommend the book – The ultimate rig guide published by carpology magazine. you should get one on ebay/amazon.
