illegals ruining the trent

I couldnt agree with you more mate, Ive seen them down there many times and seen the mess when they leave. Last summer I was fishing on the corner peg when four of them came to fish on the peg I was on. They stood behind me for many minutes asking me how long I was going to be there, when I told them I was fishing til dark they were not happy and started talking in polish (I think) and arguing between themselves. I dont know what they were saying BUT, I felt quite uneasy. I know that its difficult being tucked away in the middle of nowhere but surely there is something the club can do to stop these poachers.

Didn’t realise we had this problem below sawley weir guys, I’m a bailiff on derby railway ac and have kicked poachers off a couple of times last year on the trent at swarkstone. I don’t mind in the least having a wander down there and keeping eye on things, if see anything untoward, can call the police or Enviromental agency, see if we can try to get a stop to it. Have to say these morons make my blood boil and would have great pleasure in kicking them off, where abouts have they been seen exactly, is it the Harrington pub side of the weir or the Middle section?

Hi Guy’s. Regarding these entries on this site relating to these persons fishing around Sawley Weir. Has anyone actually made contact the Bailiff and reported this at the time…? The Bailiff who covers this area is indicated in your season ticket, I’m confused…!!! Ian

Guys I’ve spoke to one of our bailiffs about this situation, he told me last river season they had to remove some lads that were camping a couple of times, there was the remains of a fire but had been there quite a while and they hadn’t seen any poachers as such at that time. Can you tell me when did you see these poachers down there exactly? Was it in last few weeks because will keep a eye on things as are the other bailiffs.
If you spot anything or anyone untoward in the meantime as we can’t have eyes on the place all the time you can contact any of the bailiffs ( all the names and contact numbers in the POD book, I think Chris Davis bailiffs that stretch of the river)

ok ian will keep an eye out when river back open . these we have seen are not kids though and would not be shifted even by a bailiff . they will only stop if prosecuted by the ea but can imagine how hard it is to catch them at it .

Chris Davis has been called down there many times in the past only to find young lads camping, not fishing. unfortunately there is not much we can do about this as we don’t own the land “only the fishing rights” The land owner should clamp down on the camping situation. Chris has checked their tents etc for evidence of fishing and found nothing. Ian

Unfortunately these are not kids despite what you want to believe . The trent is so infrequently bailiffed that you would never see them . I have been a member over 20 yrs and have no interest in the COMPLEX so only fish the rivers and I can honestly say in all the years I have seen a bailiff perhaps twice and never on the derwent so illegal poaching will and does happen and they can not be approached . The club concentrates on the money which is now carping and completely neglect true anglers on the rivers which incidently is this great clubs heritage . We have to strim cut and dig our own pegs whereas the pits get new platforms and lovely mown grass .

To be fair Richmuz , I also love the river and spend most of my time there after June 16th, I haven’t actually been over to the weir for sometime so I can’t comment but do fish around the new horseshoe bridge area and from there along to where pipe bridge is and there is half a dozen brand new pegs made just like on the carp lakes and also alot of the other pegs around that area are strimmed and cleared for when the season starts

As for the poaching problem I think the best thing to do is keep our eyes open as I will myself and if see anything or anyone there that shouldn’t be then contact any of the bailiffs or the enviromental agency which incidentally has a 24 hour Hotline to call for any such instances like this, I’ll sort the number out and post it on here later

I think those pegs are on the complex that’s why they get sorted
try a walk along the derwent at wilne or Trent around Ironmongers only anglers doing any work there and not a lot of it
peaceful fishing though roll on June 16
its about time the ea scrapped close season it serves no purpose nowadays

yes membership been since about 1986 on and off not consecutive years. will certainly try to contact the ea then if we come across any this season thanks. a little put off fishing that stretch though after this season especially at weekends as they seem to come fri t time and have most the pegs till sun . but will give it a go and inform the nessacery people if needed. lovin the redfins in grimleys at the mo cracking fishing
