Nice! How long have you fished redhouse and how many you had?

I started fishing Redhouse in June 2012 and all I got on my first session was bites from the mozzies, 5 sessions later I managed to bank the 24 mirror….smashing my uk PB by 4lb 🙂 but I knew that redhouse could produce bigger fish. 2 sessions prior to the capture I had the fortune of photographing a fellow angler with 30lb just over common (stunning fish but now dead :-(…) it was his capture that focused my attention to that part of the lake after they had spawned.

12 sessions in and I started on what I thought was just a 1 nighter, but seeing a fish roll over my bait caused me to stay a second night even though I had got to travel up to Glasgow the next morning (Friday) but knew bite time was around 10am. 09:45 the middle rod roared off and the target common was in the net :-), I couldn’t believe it to be honest although I was expecting a take!!

Did a couple more sessions after that in 2012 but didn’t produce anything, wanted to carry on fishing through the winter but family and work didn’t allow unfortunately.

I really wanted to hit the lake hard in 2013 but again family and work have not really been in my favour to allow it although I have managed to get a dozen or so mini sessions and 1 nighters in. I have managed 6 fish this year, 20lb 10oz common, 19lb 10oz half Lin, 15lb two tone and three stockies….:-)

So in all I’ve fished it lightly really for 18 months, caught 8 fish including my target fish. All in all I’m very happy with my results but feel I could have got more sessions and results if I really pulled out all the stops to be by the lake 🙂

Yeah the lake holds some cracking fish mate and I must admit I do really like the lake. I wouldn’t say that I have give up on it but since the publicity with the ccmoore blog the lake has seen become a lot more popular this year which isn’t a bad thing for the club in all fairness 🙂

I have been fishing other waters this year, clumber park, Drayton res and also a week in France. I’m hoping to get on Pride Lake and Olvers lake when the ticket renewals come through in June :-), but if not then I will continue to fish redhouse and other waters too. I know for sure there are still some fish in redhouse that I want to capture 🙂

Not yet I’ve fished it 4 times only been overnighter and had one run and it snagged me up.

That’s unlucky Dan but also a result if ya know where I’m coming from, some guys haven’t even had a take in a couple of years of wetting a line in there.

By stump peg as you call it I was over the moon when it roared off then gutted when I got snagged up!

Had a feeling you was gonna say that side of the lake, I don’t know for sure exactly how severe the snags are down that side of the lake but apparently it’s an old Hawthorne edge that was left in when pit was filled with water. I have been told that you used to be able to see the tops of the sprags when the water level was down but the divers went in and cut most of them off but didn’t lop them right near the lake bed but instead left some height on the hedge under water! Don’t know why. I’ve been told it’s clear as I may of mentioned before out from the stump peg, but how big the clear area is I don’t know.

I have been told that the hedge line runs about 30 – 40 yards parallel to the bank, to be honest I’ve not fished much on that side of the lake due to the reported snags and all the fish list to landed ratio. Although I am now geared up properly for snag fishing and locking the clutches up, but I’m not that fast outta bed so would move my rods during the night.

Fishing the open water side of the snags from the point swim, Trent side can be productive as you can use the angle of the rods to work for you in teasing the fish away but I’m sure some losses would still occur.

Most of my fishing has been done from North bank, east bank and the point. If you wanna see what’s in there then make sure you are around during spawn 🙂

So what sort of bait have you been using?

LOL, mainline cell although I have been tweeking my hookbaits 🙂

Recently though a friend of mine has been producing bait for me which I have found to be very good quality at half the price and had instant results on redhouse…the base flavour is chilli and garlic..it caught first session out with it on redhouse :-), the bait also caught some fish from Clumber park for me this year

I have recently been getting Red Liver off him too but its not really a winter bait, it catches but for better results he is now rolling me 5k of nut based as I type this.
