Hi Shep, have just read and re-read your post. If I can add my take on this.
One of the problems is most of the anglers in the POD are of working age and I think there lays the problem.
With limited time to fish against work and family time it all seems to clamour around weekends and Bank holidays.
It is hard to juggle a balance between this. I think on the whole, the club has it bang on.
If I can take you through my findings. I have been a member for almost 4 years. I have watched the club grow
and get things done as well as seen the fish size mature especially in Grimshaws. The work around the place
is never going to be done fast enough for some but it has got there in the end. When I first joined I was faced with
the fact that I had match lake ( as it was then ) with a load of small fish or Redhouse as a soul destroyer. This was
backed up with the Trent and Ully gully. But for my take on things, being retired and semi disabled I had the
time to go mid week or after a Bank holiday, this to give the working lads space to do their thing at those times.
Until the time comes to join the premier ticket league. That’s when your eyes are opened up. All of a sudden you
are aware, WOW, this POD is really something, they have got the balance of things spot on. Up to that point we
may be feeling just the same as you.
Look at it now though. You have Grimshaws producing upper 20s bordering on thirties. The main lakes throwing up 40s
when you finally get your head around Redhouse it has some stunningly good fish. Then there is Ully-gully now
giving up the upper 20s. To sum up, It would be foolish to form an opinion half cocked take a look at the fuller picture
and I think you would then agree, as I do, where else do you now get all this quality fishing at such a modest price?
I myself have put questions to the club and knocked myself out over Redhouse. Then I looked to within my angling
ability and only then, when you wake up one morning and, wow, you’re there, you have made it.
In my book if Carlsberg made a carp fishing venue they would call it P.O.D.
